THE KÖBES
Since around the 19th century, a waiter who serves beer in breweries in Cologne, Bonn or Düsseldorf has been called a Köbes. Traditionally, he always wears a blue linen apron with a leather wallet strapped around his waist. According to Wikipedia, "Köbes" is the Cologne Shortname of Jakob and it is also represented in other dialects in the Rhineland, but is occasionally used in the secondary meaning "stubborn, edgy or stocky person".

On April 22, 1951, 15 citizens founded the housing cooperative “Baugelast, building cooperative of those entitled to equalization of burdens, eGmbH Cologne” in the middle of the city of Cologne.
Its task was to build housing in the Cologne area for those entitled to equalisation of burdens – displaced persons and war victims – and to make these available to its members.

In 1953, the first six apartments were occupied and by 1955, 44 more had been added and a further 16 apartments were ready for occupancy. At this time, members were also informed of construction projects for around 70 more apartments. By the end of the 1950s, the building authority was able to count 165 apartments as its own inventory.
Today, Baugelast is a housing cooperative with over 1,200 members, 746 apartments and 307 garages and parking spacesn.

there was a lot to do. It was located next door, at the level of the Rautenstrauch-Joest Museum. The hospital was almost completely destroyed in World War II and was not rebuilt.
